Pause and Remember – 5/25/2012

On Friday, I pause and remember a single, wordless moment from the past week – inspired by The Warden’s Log.

An old friend is back on the mantel

Last January when I was taking down Christmas decorations and putting up my old treasures, I dropped a Roseville Brownberry vase and shattered it beyond repair.  I was especially upset because my daughter had given it to me as a birthday gift 25 years ago.   I’ve been looking for a replacement since then and finally found one on eBay.  The original was in perfect condition, but this one has a small chip which made it affordable.  I love to look up at the mantel and see my old friend again.

    1. It’s a rather small house filled with almost 80 years of collectibles (90% of which were gifts). I pack stuff away in containers and pull it out to change almost monthly, although some things stay up year around. You’re right – they are treasures and good memories to me. Lillian

  1. It’s amazing what you find on Ebay, glad you have your vase back on the mantle. When I want to check one of the antiques from hubby’s or my mother’s house, many times I find a like item on Ebay.

    1. In this case, in addition to looking for the vase whenever I was in an antique mall, I also registered the piece with eBay to let me know when one was listed. There have been many – I’ve lost a couple of bids, some were too expensive and some were a different color, but I lucked out on this one. It’s really true that you can find almost anything on eBay. Lillian
