This block is a little more difficult because of all the small triangles but makes up into an impressive block, For the center, I fussy-cut an image from Marcus Fabrics’ The Civil War Tribute Collection. This is how I assembled the block.
- Cut the pieces as directed in Barbara’s blog. Lay pieces out on a mat in the proper order.
- Join triangles D to square E, sewing opposite sides first. There will be a 1/4 inch tail on either end.
- Press toward the dark fabric and trim tails. Piece should measure 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 inches.
- Lay down on the mat again in the proper order.
- Combine the two B triangles – you will need 8
- Join combined B triangles to C triangles according to layout. There will be a 1/4 inch tail on one end.
- Press and trim tails. Piece should measure 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
- Join two of these pieces to the sides of the center square.
- Join A squares to each side of the remaining two rectangles.
- Sew square/rectangle pieces to top and bottom of center square.
- Press and trim tails. Piece should measure 8-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches.
